Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was then a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. Then, she became a Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell is a regular on the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell was a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Her coverage included a variety of important stories like the Iran-contra scandal, the tax and budget reforms in addition to the issue of arms control. She traveled widely together with the president Reagan for summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
